Permission to Ease In (Summer’s Not Over)

Permission to Ease In (Summer’s Not Over)

As September rolls in, many of us feel that old cultural pull: shake off the “lazy days” of summer and launch into Fall at full throttle.

But pause for a moment: who really benefits from that frenzy? A frantic, anxious person is the perfect consumer. The truth is, this urgency is manufactured. Nature never rushes its seasons, and neither should you.

And let’s be clear: laziness is just a judgment we place on ourselves when we believe we’re not being productive. In reality, rest and recovery are essential; they’re what allow us to move forward with clarity, strength and optimal health.

Fall doesn’t even officially begin until September 22. So why not soak in the last golden rays of summer? Feel the ease that comes when you allow yourself to arrive gently, in your own rhythm.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this season is not about overdrive but about organizing, setting boundaries, and letting go of what no longer serves. Autumn isn’t a sprint; it’s a soft shift. And sometimes the most radical act is to step into change with the quiet grace of ease.

The Viral Skipping Trend Really Works!

Now for a dash of levity.

This summer, my sister and I tested out the viral skipping trend on the beach in Tiny, Ontario. Within seconds, we were doubled over, laughing like two grown-ups who’d completely forgotten to act like adults. There’s something hilariously freeing about flailing down the shoreline with zero grace and zero shame.

Who knew skipping could lift the spirit so quickly? It’s a reminder that joy doesn’t need to be complicated, and that sometimes silliness is its own medicine.

Quote of the Issue

"Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths, or the turning aside of thoughts in order to laugh, or to skip, or simply to be." - Etty Hillesum

Hi! I'm Dr. Dominika Zarzeczny, ND

First inspired by the work of Dr. Gabor Mate, Dr. Dominika has focused much of her career on helping her patients connect the dots between early adversity and trauma and their impact on lifelong health and well-being. She knows that the reversal of chronic illness involves the nervous system, and so she has dedicated her practice to helping patients master their own nervous system to positively influence their mind and body, behaviours and ultimately health outcomes. Her explanation of disease doesn't pathologize or blame, but is nuanced, humanized and filled with hope. She trained with various psychologists and experts in the field of psychological trauma. She incorporates the principles of neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness, Polyvagal Theory and compassionate inquiry in her approach with patients. Combining these with her naturopathic training, she likes to say that she works at the intersection of science and human experience.

Borrowed energy is the kind of energy that fuels you through sheer willpower, usually driven by fear, duty, or the need to prove yourself. It can look like motivation, but it’s actually survival. You’re running on adrenaline instead of alignment, caffeine instead of clarity. Borrowed energy gets things done, but it costs you. True...

She doesn’t obsess over food or data points, because true health isn’t achieved through controlling the...
