The secret to thriving and longevity isn’t in a protocol

The Secret to Thriving Isn’t in a Protocol

I was mindfully scrolling the other day (see what I did there? 😆) when I came across psychologist Amanda Hanson sharing that her secret to thriving has nothing to do with biohacking, supplements, or strict routines. She doesn’t obsess over food or data points, because true health isn’t achieved through controlling the external, but through cultivating emotional hygiene.

Emotional hygiene is the daily practice of tending to your psychological health, acknowledging pain, processing emotions, and building resilience before small wounds become chronic patterns. It’s the art of metabolizing emotion instead of suppressing it.

Unprocessed emotions infiltrate every domain of life, our health, relationships, self-worth, even our finances. They can often appear as physical symptoms, pointing us to where freedom has yet to be felt.

Many of my patients are beginning to see this link for themselves.

  • One realized that childhood neglect and betrayal mirrored her own self-betrayal and contributed to worsening endometriosis.
  • Another recognized that years of suppressing vulnerability had fostered deep self-criticism, which showed up in his body as rheumatoid arthritis.
  • A third saw that long-held resentment and disappointment over a lack of safety left her feeling helpless and stuck, manifesting as hip pain.

When we tend to the inner world, the outer begins to align. We no longer chase health; we embody it.

And from that place, things like nourishment become an act of love, not control. Which brings me to the topic of the Mediterranean diet 👇.

The Mediterranean Diet: A Prescription for Longevity

Extensive research confirms that the Mediterranean diet, rich in olive oil, vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains, and fish, protects against far more than heart disease.

Studies show it lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and several cancers, while improving skin inflammation, fertility, and hormonal balance in women with PCOS or during perimenopause.

This anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich way of eating nourishes every system, cardiovascular, metabolic, reproductive, and cognitive, helping you thrive at every stage of life.

Yet while many know of the Mediterranean diet, few understand how to live it day to day or how to make it fit real life.

Would you like to learn how to bring the Mediterranean lifestyle into your kitchen and your routine? We’re considering a 4-week guided program to help you do just that, practically and deliciously.

Hi! I'm Dr. Dominika Zarzeczny, ND

First inspired by the work of Dr. Gabor Mate, Dr. Dominika has focused much of her career on helping her patients connect the dots between early adversity and trauma and their impact on lifelong health and well-being. She knows that the reversal of chronic illness involves the nervous system, and so she has dedicated her practice to helping patients master their own nervous system to positively influence their mind and body, behaviours and ultimately health outcomes. Her explanation of disease doesn't pathologize or blame, but is nuanced, humanized and filled with hope. She trained with various psychologists and experts in the field of psychological trauma. She incorporates the principles of neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness, Polyvagal Theory and compassionate inquiry in her approach with patients. Combining these with her naturopathic training, she likes to say that she works at the intersection of science and human experience.
